To seize, pull, tear, or pluck from a position, a person, his hands, body, etc., snatch out, away, or off. (b) to send or urge from a place with speed; (phr.) ~ipere fugam, to speed one's flight from a place (cf. also sense 5). (c) (absol., in chariot-racing) to take the lead after a struggle. (d) (w. abst. or non-material obj.) to get rid of, banish.
To take possession of (property or sim.) by force (often feloniously), seize, carry off, etc.
(a) (of circumstances, etc.) To snatch (a person) away from his work, friends; (also pass., w. death implied as cause). (b) (of clouds. darkness, etc.) to snatch from view.
(w. abst. obj.) To withdraw suddenly, snatch away (the power to do something, the use of a thing, a right, faculty, etc.).
To snatch from danger or destruction (by physical intervention or otherwise), rescue. deliver. (b) (refl.) to escape (from a danger).
